On Tuesday, Imagine H2O announced that 120Water was one of 13 companies selected to participate in their Accelerator program. Imagine H2O (IH2O) is a San Francisco based nonprofit empowering people across the world to use innovation to solve water challenges globally. The Accelerator program is designed for water technology startups and gives them the resources, insight, and visibility required to launch and scale. Over 250 water startups applied for one of the coveted 13 accelerator spaces. The 120Water office is brimming with excitement about what 2019 holds. This opportunity allows us to further move forward our mission. It allows us to help even more water providers and school districts offer their communities peace of mind achieved through the convenience and transparency our software provides.
The water industry can be a challenging place for startups. Historically, it’s one that is slow to change and skeptical of innovation. Public water providers are charged with ensuring and protecting the public health of the nation. They don’t have the luxury of the entrepreneurial mantra “fail fast.” Failure is not an option. Public utilities can also have cumbersome processes for decision making and procurement. These cycles aren’t always conducive to the business needs of young startups. Imagine H2O’s program takes these challenges into consideration. They understand the challenges of both sides and bring them together. They work to ensure the industry continues to innovate and that the best and brightest minds remain attracted to the industry to solve the many challenges it faces.
Through the Accelerator program 120Water receives capacity development including strategic planning guidance and mentorship. We will also gain customer introductions through IH2O beta partners, investor introductions, and enhanced visibility via IH2O’s marketing channels. All of these benefits and guidance help us grow and scale as an organization more effectively and with greater impact on the communities we serve.
We could not be more proud of the year we had in 2018. It’s been an honor to be embraced by the water industry as an ally to tackle the challenge of lead in drinking water. We look forward to 2019 and this new partnership with Imagine H2O. We know it only allows us to help more water providers and school districts move their public health initiatives forward.
