If you followed 120Water at ACE this past month, you may have noticed a Canada goose dressed in an astronaut suit, rocket ship-themed swag, and perhaps even a few Buzz Lightyear references. If you came across any of this, you may have rightfully asked, “Why?”
As the deadline for the service line inventories gets closer to October 2024, utility leaders are zeroed in on inventory development. We are working with over 400 clients to meet that initial deadline, and at the same time, are thinking about what will need to happen beyond October 2024.
Or, as we said in our best Buzz Lightyear voice at ACE 2023: It’s time to go to Inventory and Beyond! Now the Buzz Lightyear references hopefully make more sense.
As far as Astro-Goose and the space-themed swag…Well, our Marketing team like to have fun. Plus, we would have been remiss if we didn’t honor the fact ACE was in Toronto by incorporating the Canada Goose as our space explorers!
While the geese may have stayed in Toronto, the message – Inventory and Beyond – goes beyond the conference.
The inventory data will inform the actions utilities will have to take to comply with the revised Lead and Copper Rule. The EPA called out these actions in their side-by-side reference guide (published December 2020). Some of these action include:
Remember: Service lines classified as unknown at the time of submission will be categorized as Lead.

At 120Water, we believe that effective data management translates into streamlined program management. As you continue (or start) your inventory development, think about where to centralize your data and consider if that place makes managing and tracking all the actions you’ll need to take easier to oversee.
The inventory is just the starting point for the future of LCRR compliance. Through our message, “To Inventory and Beyond,” we hope to motivate the industry to think and plan for beyond October 16th, 2024.
Join us as we discuss the path to what’s next, how to go beyond, and what you can to get ready!
